Our Story

Douglas Freer founded Blue Moose in 2002 when he recognized that commercial property owners needed better solutions to manage the type of unexpected, dangerous snow events that are typical in Northeast Ohio. He noticed that many companies provided the snowplowing as an “extra.” For Blue Moose, snow is the focus, which means responsive service and professional staff that understands that a clear property is a safe one.

Dedication is a founding principal of Blue Moose: dedication to customers, to snow and ice management, and to reducing risk for business owners. As a business owner himself, Freer understands the stress of ensuring that employees and customers stay safe on his property.

Freer is passionate about how service is delivered. It must be timely, reliable and top quality. His commitment to the snow and ice industry is evident through his involvement with the Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA). Freer has served as chairman of the SIMA’s Education committee. He was awarded SIMA’s first-ever Volunteer of the Year award in June 2003 for dedication and service to the organization; and he holds the association’s designated credential as a Certified Snow Professional (CSP).
